Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The nose offers an intriguing blend of warm cinnamon, aromatic black licorice, and the comforting depth of Earl Grey tea. On the palate, vibrant red currant and ripe fig are gracefully balanced by the earthy essence of baked clay, creating a complex, textured experience that lingers beautifully.
Vineyard Notes
2023 was an exceptional vintage. A lack of precipitation, and warm, bright days distinguished this vintage from others. The wines carry a weight and concentration that is increasingly associated with premium sites in Virginia.
Production Notes
Merlot is the predominant grape in the Bordeaux blend. After being chilled overnight the fruit was destemmed, sorted, and fermented in 1- ton bins for roughly 3.5 weeks. Gently pressed, settled over night and racked to French oak barrels, 30% new oak.
Winemaker Notes
2023 was a unique year. The weather cooperated with a good balance between day and night time temps and very little precipitation. Insect and mildew pressure were negligent. The fruit came in really clean, and ripe. These vintages require a degree of restraint in the cellar in order to not over extract. The reds are full of finesse and elegance. They are showing well now but have many years left until their prime.
